Brief Encounter film night

The evening of Hillaballoo brings us Brief Encounter film night, in the Narthex hall of the Telegraph Hill Centre.

The poster can be downloaded here – feel free to put it up in your windows:

Time 7.30, tickets £3 (in new money)

Evidence of stiff upper lip, authentic 1945 middle-class garb or a convincing clipped BBC accent that conceals a burning heart of desire threatening to consume one’s very being gets a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake.

Optical telegraph inspiration

A major inspiration for Hillaballoo is the view from the hill and the history of the hill as site of an optical telegraph station. So, I was really excited at the Goldsmiths degree show to come across an artist called Ellie Chaney who has been researching and making work about the optical telegraph. See http://www.elliechaney.com/artwork.php?templateid=2&artworkid=30

She has been walking and filming the route of one of the chains to Great Yarmouth and plans this summer to film the route from Telegraph Hill. She has agreed to take part in Hillaballoo, which is fantastic.

Arts and crafts fair

On Hillaballoo, Carol Vigurs is organising an arts and craft fair in the Narthex hall of the Community Centre. If you know any people who might be interested in taking a table, do let them know and ask them to contact Carol for details. There are a few spaces left and it would be great if they went to local artists and makers.

Carol’s myspace is: http://www.myspace.com/artsandcraftsse14; email address: vigurs@googlemail.com

Six weeks countdown – we need a drink

In a bit more than 6 weeks, it will be Hillaballoo.

We have done some of the hard work, organising activities, getting forms filled, raising some funds, putting leaflets in 4,000 Hilly Telegraphs which will be hitting mats this weekend. There are a few things still to sort out, and we could still do with more contributors of activities or helpers on the day. If you’re interested to find out more, come along to a drink (hopefully in the garden) at Skehans on the corner of Kitto and Gellatly Road, at 8.30 on Wednesday 11 June.

Celebrating the Hill

Hillaballoo is an event celebrating the community of Telegraph Hill. It will take place on 18 July 2009 in the Lower Park. Your contributions are invited, especially welcome on the theme of growth (plants, food, wildlife, friendship etc).

Your Hill photos

We've set up a Flickr group called Telegraph Hill Visions so that we can share photos from this and other events. Also, feel free to share any photos taken in the area. To contribute, you can sign up to Flickr, create your own photo gallery using their uploader tools, then join this group. You then go to your Organise page where you can post your Hill photos into the Group gallery. Find the group on http://www.flickr.com/groups/telegraphhillse14/
