Wrong year for celebrating telescope!

It’s been pointed out correctly that 2009 is actually year of the telescope, or the International Year of Astronomy. http://www.iau.org/iau0702.486.0.html

Unfortunately, if you Google ‘year of the telescope’, the previous post in this website comes to the very top. At least it shows that doing a blog helps get publicity for local community projects, but it also shows how the internet can spread falsities as well as knowledge. I shouldn’t have got that wrong. It was lazy of me.

Year of the Telescope

2008 is the Year of the Telescope, celebrating Galileo’s inspired use of the telescope and all that came afterwards, leading to navigation of the seas and the stars. It would be great to see some activities in Hillaballoo that celebrate this occasion.

Celebrating the Hill

Hillaballoo is an event celebrating views and visions of Telegraph Hill. It will take place on 19 July 2008 in the top park and beyond. The centrepiece is an Amazing Camera Obscura. Your contributions are invited.

Your Hill photos

Below is a feed from a Flickr group called Telegraph Hill Visions. Click on this to explore it. If you want to play too, you can sign up to Flickr, create your own photo gallery using their uploader tools, then join this group. You then go to your Organise page where you can post your Hill photos into the Group gallery. You can suggest also new activities or challenges for the Group. We've started two; photos of back gardens and animals.
