What is Hillaballoo?
Hillaballoo is a one-day summer celebration of the Telegraph Hill Park and its community activities.
The first took place in 2007, then was funded by Lewisham Council in 2008. In 2009 it takes place on July 18th in the Lower Park to coincide with the Farmer’s Market. This year the main theme is ‘growth’, including ecology, food, plants, gardens and wildlife, but also the growth of friendship and community.
Everyone is invited to run a creative activity or set up a stall.
Your questions answered:
When? Saturday 18th July, lunchtime until after dark.
Where? The Lower Park, Erlanger Road entrance.
Will there be food? The Farmer’s Market will be in the Lower Park, 10 am -3 pm, so you can buy food for a picnic.
Will it cost anything? It’s free to attend and free to register.
Are there fees for contributors? We have £800 to fund a commission to run a creative participatory activity. On top of this, we have no extra funds to pay fees. Feel free to busk for donations or to sell items.
Are there any limits or rules for contributors?
- There are no limits on artistic content, except to bear in mind that it is a family audience.
- We also request no construction or damage to the Park, no vehicle access or parking in the Park and no safety risks.
- No amplified music in the Park.
- We cannot provide very much equipment so if you need a gazebo or trestle table, for example, please provide these yourself.
What should I do if I want to contribute?

I wondered if we could do a photographic and Art exhibition in the cafe for the event related to Telegraph Hill and I would like to do some research about the view before Canary Wharf etc. and how it has changed over time – perhaps people in the local area would have some pictures we could get blown up or we could also do some research with archivists or Telelgraph Hill Society.
We could also get our Art tutors to work with the trainees on this theme in the cafe over the next few weeks.
Any other ideas please let me know.
